Professional Recognition of Geologists vital to success of Malta’s Mass Transport Plans
Infrastructure Minister Bonett’s light rail plan faces scrutiny from the Chamber of Geologists, who warn of significant risks. PR 10 Chamber of Geologists introduces membership numbers for public Safety
The Malta Chamber of Geologists (MCG) is issuing this Press Release to highlight a critical gap in the nation's construction legislation regarding ground investigations. Current regulatory failures are directly undermining public safety and the integrity of the building industry. Despite repeated representations, the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) has failed to formally recognize the geology profession thereby allowing non-geologists to handle complex geological assessments resulting in increased risks of structural failures, posing a direct threat to the public and property.
In response to this legislative vacuum, the Chamber is taking decisive action to protect the public. We are introducing a verification system designed to empower the public and industry stakeholders. Through this new method, developers and citizens can quickly verify whether a person conducting a ground investigation is a fully qualified, competent geologist. By ensuring only experts handle these critical assessments, we can mitigate risks and uphold professional standards in the Maltese construction sector.

This amendment obliges MCG members within the class of Professional Geologist to include membership number in any formal and official document.
