MEMBERSHIP

The Malta Chamber of Geologists offers different types of membership. There are six categories of membership:


Professional membership

Professional members shall have a geology, geoscience, or other qualification approved by the Board, and have been engaged in the science and practice of geoscience subsequent to the award of the qualification. The period of professional practice required will be relevant to the level and field of the award. An interview may be required for professional membership.

It is essential that applicants for Professional Membership demonstrate:

a) A clear understanding of the complexities of geology and of geological processes in space and time in relation to their area of expertise.

b) Critical evaluation of geoscience information to generate predictive models. 

c) Effective communication both orally and in writing. 

d) Competency in the management of Health and Safety and environmental issues.

e) Clear understanding of the meaning and needs of professionalism and an understanding of the Code of Professional Conduct of MCG.

f) Commitment to CPD throughout the applicants professional career. 

g) Competence in his/her area of expertise 

1. Professional Geologist  (membership fee  € 50 per annum)

Holders of a degree at MQF/EQF Level 6 or higher in Geology which must include at least two of the following: Economic geology, Engineering geology, Environmental geology, Hydrogeology, Marine geology, Mining geology, Petroleum geology, Sedimentology, Stratigraphy, Structural geology, Biostratigraphy.


2. Professional Geoscientist  (membership fee  € 50 per annum)

The Chamber may set up Chapters for professional Geoscientists who work closely with Geologists and the Geological Profession. Professional Geoscientist membership may be conferred to such professionals. Geoscientists include persons holding a degree at MQF/EQF Level 6 or higher in Geophysics, Geomorphology and other branches of geoscience the Council may approve.


Other classes of membership

3. Associate Member  (membership fee € 40)

  

Persons who value Membership of the Chamber and wish to participate in the learned activities of the Chamber 

but do not meet the academic requirements for entry to other classes of membership, subject to payment of a 

subscription fee, as could be levied by the Council.



4. Student Member  (membership fee € 20)


Persons who are registered students in higher education courses related to Geology.


5. Honorary membership

The Council may, after taking a unanimous vote confer Honorary Membership to persons who have made exceptional  contributions to the Geological Profession in Malta or overseas. Persons appointed to Honorary class will not carry voting powers in the Chamber’s Council and General Meetings.


6. Corporate membership

Corporate Body Membership for Limited Liabilities Companies which involve or employ Geologists is subject to payment of subscription fee for Corporate Members. Corporate members will not carry voting powers in the Chamber’s Council and General Meetings. Corporate membership fees are set according to tiers as follows:

          Gold Corporate membership at € 1000

          Silver Corporate membership at € 500

          Bronze Corporate membership at € 200
